SOMEWHERE
The director Sofia Coppola returns to more familiar ground after the fiasco of his previous film and delivers a film more attractive ideas that are running, where the atmosphere achieved emptiness comes too hard and too many times makes obvious gaps in the film. Stephen Dorff is the star of the film proving to be an often underrated actor, but who really stands out is the young Elle Fanning perfectly following the footsteps of her older sister.
Johnny Marco is a moderately successful actor who lives in the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles and who does what is expected of her movie star status. Sale with attractive women in casual, drives a Ferrari and lives a life as easy as placid. When one does not know what to do with their time and unexpectedly, eleven years her daughter goes to live with it for a few weeks.
In Hollywood many times looking for ideas within himself and herself, their stars and operation have been issues on which preference has always been on display. To portray itself and its people, Hollywood has used either a look fun, interesting, intelligent, critical and even purely narcissistic. The director Sofia Coppola, who demonstrated the limits of nepotism in the film industry after passing interpretation, especially remembered his performance in "Godfather III", getting back behind the camera after losing to his most recent film, "Marie Antoinette "of the credit obtained thanks to the remarkable" Lost in Translation "and presents a story about the emptiness of fame and success through an actor in Los Angeles.
This movie represents a return to the cinematic style that gave him notoriety and used with skill in "Lost in Translation" just a new step forward. In "Somewhere", there is great harmony between the central role and the tone used by the director, perfectly represented by the opening scene in which the protagonist is bored even himself with what he is doing. The central character is someone completely disconnected from his own life and feelings and only has some power when it comes into contact with another living being. As is alone, without purpose and vegetation without knowing what to do with their time. Coppola portrays and transmits the inside of this character in an excellent way but may be questionable if they actually resulted in an interesting film. Sometimes it seems that the director has put his character in front of the camera, is gone for a coffee and when it was agreed to cut from yelled at the bar. In others, it is clear a great spark of intelligence in how it has treated the story.
The film is practically reduced to two characters and all the weight falls on the actor Stephen Dorff , who is virtually present in every level of the film. The parallels between his character and the real race of the interpreter are obvious, and although his presence is not memorable, it is a reminder that an actor is often underestimated. It is quite possible that this role is not responsible for the resurgence of this actor, such as it was for Mickey Rourke film " The Wrestler ", but" Somewhere "itself is the film that definitely has uncovered Elle Fanning, sister little of the young actress Dakota Fanning .
Within a solid performance, with Stephen Dorff is missing a little more intensity, which is a pervasive feature of "Somewhere", a portrait of the nothingness of fame and Hollywood, attractive at specific times but dominated by a vacuum whole.
127 HOURS
Against everything that might seem, this dramatic true story becomes a film about energy and the will to survive of its protagonist with excellent visual and narrative strength, where Danny Boyle gives a lesson in how to visually narrate dynamism and imagination. James Franco stands in the central and embroiders a demanding role which pays full tribute to the real person in which it is based.
Aron Johnson is a mountaineer from the United States in a way in which he was alone and without notifying anyone was trapped at the bottom of a canyon after a heavy stone discard it. His arm got stuck between the rock and the wall of the narrow gorge, having no way to get help and possessing very limited water resources and tools in his backpack.
With a filmography marked by great successes, such as "Trainspotting" and "28 Days Later" and box office flops like "The Beach" and "A Life", the next film by Danny Boyle after having achieved its greatest success and Oscar best director with " Slumdog Millionaire "represented a mystery, especially considering that the director has never been afraid to take risks and try all kinds of genres.
On paper, "127 hours" may seem a harsh history can hardly endure two hours of footage, where virtually the only character spends the whole film trapped in a narrow canyon. On the contrary, few films are so intense and energetic as the reconstruction of the true story of Aron Ralston made Danny Boyle. And yes, James Franco , the protagonist, spends more than an hour without moving.
Anyone who knows the true story of the mountaineer and knows how to finish the film but this knowledge does not detract one iota of enjoyment to "127 hours." Although it may seem strange, this is a highly entertaining film that knows how to use the emotions of the protagonist and his experience with great positivity, strength and result in a tremendously dynamic and compelling narrative. This is thanks to the great direction of Boyle, who never stops bombarding the screen and visually presents a character and what is happening inside openly and with great imagination. At times it shows the manipulative hand of emotions that employs Boyle and his co-writer Simon Beaufoy but the rapid mounting and the frenzied atmosphere cause nothing can disrupt the flow landslide with which this film unfolds.
James Franco deserves much credit for his work in this film. Your character moves between frustration, optimism and moments of madness trying to maintain some physical and mental integrity, while being aware that the situation worsens. Within all the visual techniques used its director, James Franco does stand out with a human character that has an enviable spirit which, once seen authentic recordings of Aron Ralston, perfectly represents a vital person why it is inevitable feel a certain admiration.
"127 hours" is a highlight that causes some chills, feeling more for transmitting that it shows, but in those moments he finds the imagination and energy that Danny Boyle has conceived the film and the great performance of James Franco , a combination that makes this film a triumph of overcoming.
The Admiral
This war drama and historical events focused after the October Revolution has collected and spectacular scenes but a simplistic dialogue and treatment of romantic relationships too sugarcoated. Always keep your interest, but their attempts to make the story that is based on a romantic tragedy of epic cut are so unsatisfactory as a child.
The Russian Navy Admiral Aleksandr Kolchak Vasiliyevich, a leading figure in the army, was exiled from Russia after the revolution of 1917. Soon after he returned to lead the White Army and fight the Bolshevik forces had taken control through its interim government. Married with one son, her tumultuous love life is also falling in love with the wife of an officer.
Vasiliyevich Aleksandr Kolchak is a name largely unknown outside Russia, but during the civil war in his country was proclaimed Supero Governor of Russia and her figure remains a matter of discussion. This led the naval military anti-Communist front after the Bolshevik revolution. After the recent collapse of the regime, several proposals to rehabilitate his reputation have been rejected and it was not until 2002 when it erected the first monument to a soldier believed to be fighting for their country.
The biopic featuring Andrey Kravchuk is both a series of military battles as their own struggle sentimental. The film combines subsidence, fighting, drama and a love impossible but if the scenes are very spectacular naval and historical component is always interesting, the sentiment it contains is a disappointment. As one of the biggest-budget productions made in Russia, the visual effects are first rate and his strength and striking contrast with the low tone of the more intimate scenes. His characters are well drawn but overly romanticized but when two of them interact, the film becomes a propaganda pamphlet if two men and when the hero with the love of his life, "Admiral" provides all the fussiness and blandness possible in their dialogues.
The role lies with the Khabenskiy Konstantin solid performer, known outside its borders especially in the saga of "Night Watch." Easily carries the weight of the film but can not give your character's energy needs and catches the tone of melodrama that has the entire movie.
In the end, "Admiral" is a historical drama major and connotations in its native Russia than outside it, such as the use of the ancient alphabet in the title which was abandoned after the 1917 revolution, but as a movie pure entertainment epic certainly has its highlights but interest and lack of pulse is because of a love story handled with simplicity and artificiality.
ENTER THE VOID
After the relative success that marked his previous film, "Irreversible", the filmmaker Gaspar Noé has a personal and unique cinematic experience, as explicit as unpleasant but made with a film absorber and a stunning visual appearance. It's a story that mixes death, sex and visceral and which hardly appeal to everyone but this film does not stop at any moment be an exceptional and daring displays of originality and dramatic narrative.
Oscar is a young drug addict who occasionally dope who was murdered in Japan. Blown away from his body, wanders Oscar watching her sister and her friends in the moments and days after his death, seeing firsthand the damage that his life and his disappearance has caused. At the same time, Oscar mix this vision of reality with their own memories, especially those of his children and that include a traumatic time in his childhood.
Films that occasionally appear in some aspect are cinematic experiences that leave no one indifferent. Tapes are risky, conflict and create huge fans and fervent critics. This may be the subject matter, I treat a rare visual explicitness in movies. For example, "Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick not only has been one of the two X-rated movies and to be nominated for an Oscar for best picture but that was removed from circulation in England shortly after its release until 2000 after the numerous criticisms. The revision of the figure of Christ has raised enough dust to "The Last Temptation of Christ" by Martin Scorsesse and also for their aggressiveness in "The Passion of the Christ," Mel Gobson. The psychological portrait-erotic "Last Tango in Paris" Bernardo Bertolucci was not only those responsible to trial for obscenity, but also divided the audience. But also the use of violence, "Murderers born" also raised some controversy. These are some great examples and which has the benefit of hindsight that I have provided a different reaction to the initial reception that they had, but there are good film samples each year create some debate. The latest was the recent winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes " Uncle Boonmee remember their past lives , "a genius for Tim Burton and company and a tostón pretentious for a number of people. Gaspar Noé himself has already raised some controversy with his previous film "Irreversible", especially with a rape scene, but with "Enter the Void" has further strained the rope and managed to get the descriptions of visionary and equally soporific presumptuous .
What nobody can argue is the fantastic visuals in this movie. All images created by Gaspar Noé, camera movement, the atmosphere of the city of Tokyo, continuous sequences and movements between scenes are absolutely fantastic. The biggest criticism is the story that has used this visual mastery. Noah tells the effects of the death of his central character without melodrama or sentimentality, just the opposite. The protagonist is a junkie who died of a gunshot, with a sister who is dedicated to making strip-tease and the film follows the dark and dirt of his characters with all its consequences. Noah offers a psychedelic trip, an experience close to the drug that takes the protagonist and also shows a devotion to being direct and bold, not being afraid to show all the details, they are rugged, of what is happening. And it does so through a compelling story, if you get caught up in its formal aspect and a nice little story, although the trend of its director to take every opportunity to translate into a fetishistic sex scene can be so excessive as repetitive.
But do not forget that these are the musings of a drug addict in the last journey of his life, his fantasies, traumas and experiences. The filmmaker Gaspar Noé presents it from a new first-person perspective, where we see everything that happens through the eyes of the protagonist, including eyelid movement.
This means that the central character played by Nathaniel Brown was mostly back and see that much of the work of interpretation rests with Paz de la Huerta , Cyril Roy, credible and truthful in this personal experience.
"Enter the Void" is not a movie easily recommended, it must surely twisted aside a little to enjoy it fully but the way in which the director has managed to capture a story something is too powerful and magnificent, both in terms visual narrative pseudo development, making the film be absorbed in each plane.
BLACK SWAN
After his award-winning "The Wrestler" director Darren Aronofsky is refocusing on a single character and build, with a great film, a gripping, dark psychological portrait done with great intelligence and striking. With a mastery of character development, rhythm and with a remarkable ever-increasing tension, the director also gets a perfect performance by the actress, Natalie Portman .
Nina is a dancer in a ballet company in New York who lives dedicated to dance and a possessive mother. When the star of the company goes out, Nina is chosen to be the headliner of the new representation of the "Lake of the cinemas," which opens next season. During the trial, Nina can not get the dancing and style appropriate for the representation of the character of the Black Swan, and is afraid that a new addition, Lily, will steal the job.
"The cinemas Lake is a ballet from Russia and one of the most popular in the world. Composed in 1875 and represented in many versions, today remains a regular part on stage. As stated on the character played by Vincent Cassel , "The Swan Lake" is shown even boredom, but never this way. The director Darren Aronofsky takes elements of the legend of Germanic origin and used as thread to make a fascinating study of both psychological and physical price that involves the pursuit of perfection by star dancer, played by Natalie Portman .
The film shares some similarities with his previous work, " The Wrestler (The Wrestler) . " Both focus on a single character who has his own demons in a physically demanding profession, but if the character played by Mickey Rourke was at the end of his career and he crawled to ring in the ring, here the protagonist is at first. It is curious that Darren Aronofsky has seen parallels in the change of location of a ring with a scenario by hand, recent road trip in reverse by Fedrerick Wiseman documentary with "La danse - Le Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris" and " Boxing Gym. "
In "Black Swan" the director used his style and treatment to externalize what is happening psychologically to their character. Dreams, hallucinations and confusion are used with skill, something which together with the beauty that has filmed Aronosfky make this dark fable "Black Swan" the most accomplished film of his career, especially in appearance and even taking into account some excesses committed here. The director also fluent in tempo, rhythm, and the growing tension that culminates in a long dance sequence completely absorbing. When it ends, there remains the question of the intention of the film but this is a film about the journey of its protagonist, and this is intriguing at all times.
Like any film based on the study of a character, great ability to have its director, much command of cinematic language that has, despite the clever translation of the ideas contained in the script, a film that orbits around a single star would collapse without a central action of great magnitude.
This is not only one of the most important roles of the career of Natalie Portman , but also its best performance. Like his character, the most difficult is to present the duality that could be simplified as goodness / evil, or depicted in the film as white and black swan. Natalie Portman is easily the white swan, with its delicate appearance and image-sensitive but full well his darker side when necessary. Is accompanied by strong side, Vincent Cassel , Winona Ryder , Barbara Hershey and especially Mila Kunis , Natalie Portman, but is clearly one who dominates the screen at all times.
"Black Swan" rests on the shoulders of the actor but the director Darren Aronofsky who makes this film special, building a portrait of a character and your world with imagination, intelligence and charm, with this film one that will divide the public his dark treatment but which is without doubt one of the most interesting films that have appeared recently.
THIEVES
With a little imagination and a semblance of style, this film is completely forgettable heist but entertaining if not taken seriously at any time. Its director uses the camera like a shaker and misses some of the names that have the film and the actor Paul Walker , Hayden Christensen or Zoe Saldana and let all the attention to the personal dramas of Idris Elba and Matt Dillon in rather than the action itself.
A group of professional robbers of banks and armored cars have just successfully completed its final blow when a former member of the group, recently released from prison after serving several years in prison, reappears on the scene offering a break of twenty million dollars. Despite the suspicion that it generates, they decide to plan while a police investigation is beginning to approach them.
On many occasions it seems that movies appear in pairs, being released tapes of a similar theme to another within a short period of time. "Thieves" comes to the screen almost on par with " The Town, a city of thieves "and his comparison is losing on all aspects. The approach may look the same but "Thieves", among many other things, has no intelligence or tension or direction that Ben Affleck movie. "Thieves" is simply a strip of entertainment and good-looking well-known actors with a script to use and little else to offer, which is less easily.
The film is directed by John Luessenhop professionally, correctly performed their duties in various sequences but constantly moves the camera to the point it is difficult to tell who's on the screen. The director, who is also one of the screenwriters of the film also shows a penchant for providing each of the characters a personal story behind it. Internal affairs, drug-addicted sister, brothers in trouble with the memory of his father, a policeman relationship with his daughter, girlfriend has changed partners within the group and goes on. Too many characters and too many stories to be able to be treated with a minimum of time and which makes the characters are even more superficial, as they seem these dramas seem caricatures.
One and the greatest attraction in "Thieves" is its cast. Part of the commercial pull you have, especially in the U.S., is having two popular musical figures, Chris Brown and TI, as protagonists. Rightly, much of the burden rests acting Idris Elba , who returns to coincide with Zoe Saldana after the recent " losers . " Matt Dillon is one of the props are there in this film that misses over the presence of Hayden Christensen and especially of Paul Walker , virtually disappeared.
"Thieves" is moving aggressively and quickly develops a conventional script, full of clichés and starring one-dimensional characters, but despite its excesses and limitations, get your order to be entertaining if you disconnect your brain just completely shut down the lights.
THE TOWN - CITY OF THIEVES
In his second film as director, Ben Affleck returns to verify their skill behind the camera with this action thriller full of tension, rhythm and narrative force, in its remarkable sequences of the various robberies and in the most driven purely by characters, although the script runs along roads and seen many times before. The director reserves the lead but Jeremy Renner who once again power load screen.
Doug and three friends in the neighborhood of Charleston in the living form a gang of robbers and armored car most wanted bank. While planning their next heist, Doug starts looking for a way out of his life when he begins a relationship with an employee of a bank that is connected to one of their robberies and feeling the pressure from the FBI, while his lifestyle as following binding to their friends and loyalties.
Ben Affleck is poised to become an early Clint Eastwood. In your resume as an actor are some outstanding performances as a supporting role in "Hollywoodland" interesting titles as "State of Play" or "Dogma" and many disasters as "Pearl Harbour", "Daredevil" or "Gigli." After his impressive directorial debut, "Goodbye, Baby Gone, Ben Affleck , who won an Oscar shared with Matt Damon for their screenplay Good Will Hunting ", strengthens the demonstration that a director to be reckoned with second film that recreates a realistic tension but in a completely different record.
"The Town" is a crime drama centered on the leader of a group of thieves and its relation with a woman as his best friend, with whom he has raised. The weight of the film are both in the action, with two scenes of robberies that are notable not for its spectacular but the tension, atmosphere and shot in a captivating, like the characters. This film tries to give them time, space and exploration, which in other hands could have made the rate decline but Ben Affleck succeeds in perfect harmony with the tone of the film stressed that adding one more trip to the characters than usual see in this kind of movies. It is especially remarkable work done with the camera, always near the midsection of his characters, giving the film an image of proximity, reliability and ruggedness look outstanding.
The film adapts a novel by Chuck Hogan titled "Prince of Thieves" and the screenplay by the director and Peter Craig is remarkably well structured and narrative works perfectly. It is true that history and how it has been deployed at times reminiscent of the movie "Heat" by Michael Mann. "The Town" is not the same level as the excellent film starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, but is one of the few films that can be compared with it and test out with some pride intact.
The very Ben Affleck stars in the film. It is a solid presence, but this casting choice is questionable, and that fails to provide all the charisma that his character really needs. Who returns to deliver an electrical interpretation is Jeremy Renner , in a different role as intense as it was nominated for an Oscar in " The Hurt Locker . " A complete Rebecca Hall , an unrecognizable Blake Lively and an achiever Jon Hamm round out the cast that also has the presence of Pete Postlethwaite and Chris Cooper in two small roles.
"The Town" does not reinvent its genre and proves that he has learned a lot from the great films of crime dramas, but with a remarkable group of actors and especially with a steady hand full of verve and nerve, this film manages to be an outstanding example of the action thrillers.
OF GODS AND MEN
The true story of a group of Christian monks is a beautiful, tragic and intimate story is not the piety of its members but the process of reflection and acceptance of a situation and the decision to be taken consistently. Xavier Beauvois makes a direction as is perfectly supported by a remarkable group of French actors, among which Lambert Wilson , Olivier Rabourdin and Michael Lonsdale.
In a monastery in a remote village of Algeria in the nineties, a group of eight monks live in harmony with their Muslim neighbors. The region sees terror as a violent fundamentalist group attacks perpetrated with increasing frequency, especially aimed at foreigners. With requests from authorities to return to France, the monks have to make a decision on whether to leave the monastery and brought to safety or stay at the expense of their danger.
This film was one of the favorites at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the Grand Prix, second in importance attached by the Palme d'Or competition which ended up in " Uncle Bonmee recalling their past lives . " They are two radically different films, both in design, development and style.
"Of Gods and Men" is a drama based on the true story of a group of Cistercian monks who lived through the heyday suffered fundamentalist French Algeria in the nineties. Although the film could easily have fallen into the polarity representing the situation and both religions, by Christian monks and Muslim by the majority of the population, the film is much more intelligent and humane than that.
The question of religion logically have to be present as background, but it is a debate to which the director and writer Xavier Beauvois not fit correctly and that is through one of their characters, which binds both beliefs rather of the difference. The film focuses on his eight characters and the decision taken. His humanity, his fear, his survival instincts while conception of what is right, what is consistent and coherent internal debate that each of the eight characters has and, with apparent ease narrative is conveyed perfectly.
True, the film loses some of its narrative force, but half of footage is remarkable how characters are constructed, how their life together created and how they are exposed ideas and feelings with total credibility and exploration.
It helps A notable cast of actors with which the film has. Not too well known outside of France, its cast creates a believable sense of community while creating individuals and personalities clearly differentiated and defined. The group include Lambert Wilson , Olivier Rabourdin and Michael Lonsdale although collective sense of brotherhood which create a whole that stands out.
"Of Gods and Men" is a film with a long history, to locate the conflict or a confrontation of ideas, on the contrary, is an exploration of humanity and thinking process of men who have to decide what gives meaning his life, something made with a simple film, notable acting work and honestly conveys the full burden of its characters and story.
IN THE CENTER OF THE STORM
Veteran French director Bertrand Tavernier adapted a detective novel that also has a touch of whimsy with a run without getting full and create a minimum voltage or special interest. His remarkable cast headed by Tommy Lee Jones and the side John Goodman , Peter Sarsgaard , Mary Steenburgen and Kelly Macdonald , is the highlight but can not give no fluidity to the development of this story.
The police detective Dave Robicheaux is investigating the murder of an underage prostitute. In the course of their inquiries, stopped for speeding a couple actor and the neighborhood are making a movie. In exchange forgive his offense, the actor leads to a body over the last hurricane has unearthed. This belongs to an open case many years ago. While investigating both murders, Robicheaux and unknowingly ingested hallucinogenic visions with a soldier has died conferederado that helps in solving cases.
This movie has the aroma of a piece of the old detective, especially popular in the 40's, where a detective with personal sense of justice and determination investigating a case based on dialogues and meetings and no special effects. The renowned French director Bertrand Tavernier adapts a popular novel by James Lee Burke with good use of the atmosphere, tone, and not knowing how to make the different elements that have a story with some continuity and not too disparate and dissipated.
Detective Dave Robicheaux is a literary star of a long series of novels. It is especially curious that the director and screenwriters Mary Olson-Kromolowski and Jerzy Kromolowski have decided to adapt the sixth book in the series, which is a major problem as has been done. Instead of giving some context to the viewer, the movie jumps in the middle of the life of its subject, and seems to assume that everyone knows the history of the detective. Many things are taken for granted, especially in interaction with other characters is evident that there is past history, that at some point but has been told that the director does not bother to provide some backdrop to the public not a fan of the novels . There is another film adaptation of another wandering the same character, nearly forgotten and released in 1996 starring Alec Bladwin.
This lack of narrative location is particularly upset about the way in which the detective conducts its investigations. He goes, having a conversation with a character, complete, go to another, another conversation and so on until you lose count. Some side appear and disappear quickly and others are returning for a second round. The conversations he has are pretty bland but it is clear that there is a latency between her personal burden protagonist and many of them, something that has probably been discussed before but not in this movie.
What always manages to maintain some interest in the film in the plane is its surreal narrative. The appearance of dead conferedado fits perfectly with the atmosphere of mystery that the director has given to the film. The last scene was unnecessary delivering a conclusion but these occurrences are phenomena of the two assets that have this film to be want to keep watching the story unfolds.
The second noteworthy element is its cast of actors. Tommy Lee Jones ("In the Valley of Elah", "No Country for Old Men") returns to do a role like that he has been represented at the latest films with the same strength that is unusual. The film also features John Goodman , Peter Sarsgaard , Mary Steenburgen and Kelly Macdonald among other names, a remarkable cast that makes them suspicious of the quality of this film knowing that in the U.S. and other markets has not been released in cinemas and has been relegated to straight to DVD distribution.
The presence of Tommy Lee Jones in each plane of the film fails to make this film lacks fluency, full of monotony and who can not create the minimum voltage required for its history resulting in an interesting thriller, but with the names of its director, actors and novelist is impossible not to be acceptably visible.
STORIES OF THE GOLDEN AGE
The director Cristian Mungiu has five episodes over the last years of communism in Romania, full of irony, absurd moments of life then and picaresque. With five different directors is logical that the level of the various stories differ from one another but as a whole work well, with remarkably written, ambience and filmed, the film becomes not only interesting but highly entertaining.
During the last years of the socialist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu emerged a number of legends. The film picks up five, "The Legend on sellers of air," "The Legend of chicken wire," "The Legend of the official visit," "The Legend of the photographer of the party" and "The Legend of greedy police." They recount episodes of life in Romania in which its citizens are treated in hand, follow the guidelines of the party and try to get something else for a living system.
All stories in this film are written by Cristian Mungiu, director of "4 Months, Three Weeks and 2 Days" and directed by himself along with four other directors Romanians. One characteristic of all stories is the prevailing confusion of its citizens, who lived in a regime in which the orders of the party had to comply even if they were absurd and many things worked without much regard. Recreating this little chaos, producers have intentionally reflected not only in the narrative of "Tales from the golden age" but also in form, since there are different versions of the film that have been circulating in Cannes, other festivals and premieres by several countries. Actually the entire movie consists of six stories, almost always lacking any of the episodes, but usually is "The Legend of enthusiastic activist", the weakest of the six. The order in which project also differs and never indicates what particular episode has addressed each director. The result is an episodic film, but presents a great uniformity. His ironic tone and style of the situations can be comic or dramatic at times but manages to reflect an era marked by the rationalization of food, the picaresque life under a totalitarian single party. "The legend of the official visit" and "Legend of the photographer of the party" are the most fun and dynamic even though the rest creates an atmosphere especially notable. The film certainly reaches more local audience, who understands all the little jokes in it and have lived at the time, but as the film itself is not only a witty and kind reflection of the historical period, is highly entertaining film and made a great film, melancholy and quality.
"Tales from the Golden Age" is a remarkable new film shows the good that comes out recently in Romania, made a good film even though the quality of the stories is not always the same but it does convey the residue of truth and how life was common in that regime and it does not from the critics with anger, but from the standpoint of an ordinary citizen who, without defending or omit to do a review, then go with sympathy and nostalgia of the absurdity of the moment.
KING'S SPEECH
Probably the most easily recommendable movies of recent years, as its combination of light drama, humor, historical elements and excellent performances make this film a great entertainment, well directed by Tom Hopper and based in a dash of high quality. Actor Colin Firth excels in the central role and is superbly supported by a great Geoffrey Rush and outstanding Helena Bonham Carter .
King George V is nearing the end of his reign and his eldest son Edward is appointed to succeed to the throne. When it comes time, Edward is crowned king but is unable to reconcile the restrictions of the post with his desire to marry a divorced woman. His younger brother George has almost no public appearances since his stuttering but finally seems to be finding a way to overcome through therapy and speech therapist Australian friendship.
Great speeches in history are those that contain not only great power in his words, but those arriving at key historical moments. The dream of Martin Luther King and the fight on the beaches of Winston Churchill are two of them but there are a number of them in each period and country. King George VI gave a speech that represented a change in the history of England and, consequently, throughout Europe. But this story in the history contains an interesting anecdote, as one of the most valued qualities in a politician is his ability in public speaking and the King George VI purchase cost. Without having been appointed to succeed his father and named king after the abdication of his brother, the monarch was a major impediment to represent their nation with the solemnity that his position required, and it was stuttering and unable to speak in public.
"The king's speech" is a movie of how George became king, both politically and through the media through radio speeches. It is a dramatic film with enough light and humorous moments in which we witness the creation and strengthening of the friendship between himself and his speech therapist. The most valued film history according to the movie database internet largest, Imdb, is also based on the friendship between two men over the years. "Shawshank Redemption" with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, has occupied the top of your list in recent years and "The king's speech", similar in tone, style and development, is at least equal in quality and enjoyment.
Funny, touching, entertaining, well acted and produced significantly are some of the adjectives that easily can be attributed to this film. Hard to believe that the screenwriter David Seidler , whose most recent work was the screenplay for the mediocre " Kung Fu Killer ", has combined a history in which drama, comedy and history come together in two characters that interact so fantastic. While the script is too light at times and slightly abused protagonist's brother, its development and direction of Tom Hopper know how to lead both the public and the characters in the best way it could have taken the cinematic representation of this story originally conceived as a play.
But if anything stands out above the rest in this film is the work of its star, Colin Firth . After being nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for " A Single Man ", come back here to give another interpretation that is usually given only once a filmography, but if two consecutive leads. Not all credit is theirs and we have much to thank her co-starring Geoffery Rush who also been at a high level, knows how to leave space in each scene so that the two characters and their interpretations are not trying to compete quite dominate the stage Otherwise, since the way in which acts Rush praises the work of other performers and especially to Colin Firth. Helena Bonham Carter also has an important role as wife of the protagonist and the presence of Guy Pearce , Michael Gambon and Derek Jacobi in supporting roles are a guarantee of interpretation.
It's easy work of Colin Firth eclipse many other aspects of the film but "The king's speech" is a quality entertainment in the many aspects that make up and results in a slightly dramatic film friendly, absorbent and passionate during their two hours footage.
NEDS
After eight years, Peter Mullan returned to sit in the director's chair and has a drama of great strength and weight, showing a social reality that is reflected in the screen is not only realistic but in a towel. The director himself appears in a role, but the spotlight falls on a group of young performers who make this film look more like a documentary than a piece of fiction.
John McGill is a clever young man who attends a school in Glasgow during the 70's. Within a family with few resources and with an alcoholic father, lives surrounded by peers who respect more a scar made by a knife that a good grade school. Harassed in school and in the shadow of an older brother respected for his violence, John begins to fall from being a brilliant student to become a youth over the streets of his city.
The British cinema has never been afraid to analyze and dissect their society. Specially marked by great differences in social class, economic and a palpable level of violence, a crowd of British films have shown less pleasant side of this society, have given prominence and periodically there are more titles that enter unceremoniously in the darkest England and the system has to offer. Such a critical and analytical work by the film industry is rare in other countries and the United Kingdom this has led not only shocking but also films of remarkable quality titles. Titles like " Fish Tank "," This is England "," Rise of the Footsoldier "or even" Harry Brown "are the first that may come to mind but there is an extensive list. Peter Mullan, best known for his role as an actor but who excelled as a director with his previous film "The Magdalene Sisters" returns to his native Scotland and displays the received education in both school and in the streets during the 70's, an absorbing social portrait made by a person who proves to have the same great talent on one side of the camera than the other.
The center of "Neds" is the class system that is conditioned by the educational system showing the film, which remains a reality for more than thirty years later. Peter Mullan's film lies in the 70's when he went to school, and this is a personal film but not necessarily autobiographical, though what the film presents is just as valid then as now. "Neds" is a film with special impact on the British public, but for other countries which exposes may be far removed from their own reality and be overly exaggerated.
True, in its final section, the script seems to take a few turns something extreme and disproportionate but this does not detract from all that Mullan has built so far. "Neds" is not just a social history of great strength, is also a well made film cinematically. Contains a remarkable tension, a true working atmosphere and a highly realistic acting.
The majority of the main roles are taken over by inexperienced players who perform with total credibility in one type of characters who seem to have been living for years. Peter Mullan's own reserves a small and important role, proving once more what it can offer as an actor.
"Neds", also called "No educated criminals", was the winner of the Festival of San Sebastián, which may cause some surprise when a film completely focused on a single reality and self as English society, but this will not detract from the fact that "Neds" is also a great movie.
FRANKLYN
With imagination and a certain intelligence, reality and fantasy collide in this film consistently. His ambition to be a drama made but far different is true, although some of the stories required further exploration.
A masked vigilante in a futuristic city in which the belief in a religion is compulsory, whether it is, chasing a dangerous cult leader. In contemporary London, a young man is dumped by his girlfriend just days before the marriage and, by chance, he is reunited with a childhood sweetheart. Another young woman is an art student with psychological problems imposed as part of an art project, her suicide attempts. And a parent looks for London to his son, a veteran soldier of the Gulf War, which has disappeared without a trace.
Combining realistic narrative with elements of fantasy is at first shocking, but it works. The film delves into the union of reality, fiction, dreams and imagination with some suggestive ideas, some developed with more success than others. Gerald McMorrow, who signs the script and directed the film, makes an interesting and potentially excessive. Such great potential of the film also play against him, as the film tries to be too ambitious and can not succeed at all levels raised. One of the main stories lost and is too superficial. In addition, further exploration of the imagination that causes the binding of both elements of fiction and reality would have been welcome. "Franklyn" has a notable history futuristic aesthetic and a group of actors who manage to give great credibility to his characters, no easy task in a movie like this. Despite this intriguing debut of Gerald McMorrow could have further refine some aspects, no longer a smart and imaginative displays a different kind of cinema.

Among those attending the recently closed San Sebastian Film Festival was quite common comment about the low level of many of the participating films. It was said that none of the festivals this year was especially good, so Donosti would not be an exception. And the proof is very clear that a movie as poor as the woman without a piano will report to Javier Rebollo the Silver Shell for Best Director. Delusional.
Although for delusions, these yes, the greatness of this film. Greatness not to become a premiere called to break the box office, but in regard to their lofty claims in style, form and character of the work. Perhaps in its boldness and in such high claims lies the sense of a major award in San Sebastian, it is certain that Rebollo Javier attempt to do something different than usual there. There's no doubt. And yes, here is to congratulate the author for his concern. The problem is that if one is to get in Gus Van Sant plan and you do not get anywhere near, what remains is, with apologies, a churro.
Women without piano is the story of a night other than in the dull, routine existence of a mature woman ( Carmen Machi in dramatic key) and unhappily married. On this night, this woman is dedicated to walking the streets, sitting, sleeping, breakfast and meet a guy in a situation so absurd that no one can swallow. Mind you, I'm going to gut. The discovery in a train station that both have the same ring tone on your mobile phone is what the players will end up sleeping together in a hostel that night.
And the rest, the void. Nothing. The desperate feeling of being stretched to a loose short hour and a half on the basis of walks and silences. A radical simplification that the result is zero. No stirring, no thrills, does not come, no matter. And no, the auteur label does not mean that whatever school.

The comedy whose title takes up almost a paragraph is nothing more and nothing less than an original adaptation of the novel by Jon Ronson, a filmmaker and journalist who writes on Scottish gonzo journalism to dupe his readers' attention. In this raid, Men Who Stare at Goats , Ronson tells a comic version of trivia about the U.S. military, and curious enough to investigate ... but the truth, if the book suggest that there is enough punishment, the film stops being a heap, which could be clearly predecessor film Three Kings and a comedy of the 90.
The story chronicles the adventures of Bob Wilton ( Ewan McGregor ), a journalist disillusioned with his life after he abandoned his wife for the editor of its publication. Full of rage is going to Kuwait to investigate issues of the war in Iraq and here he meets a group of U.S. Special Forces claim to use parapsychological techniques for spying. Such techniques are, apparently, techniques of invisibility, disappearance of clouds, through walls, mind reading, intuition and trigger heart attacks goats through the mind ...
Yes, as it sounds, all crazy. But sadly has its basis in reality. Many of the stories told in the movie are based on the initiative of an American colonel who wanted to reorganize the U.S. Armed Forces under the spiritual tendencies of the New Age . Apparently part of the military budget spent on it, and am not sure how far it seems that investment remains above mentioned techniques, because as pointed to the discovery that American intelligence using Sesame Street songs to torture and interrogate terrorists .
Maybe there's a lot of American culture that can get to one of the orbits, but the fact that you are investing your tax budget for certain things should not be very good reception (even more serious may be to invest in war .) Still, the film critic for everything it seems, no longer anything but a joke without any kind of approach as original as the one with the work in which it is based.
Asy f is a movie to watch and funny in several situations, but the second half is tedious due to a tidy little narrative structure. In fact, if not by the number of stars who leave their charisma in the film (underlining the comic work of all: Jeff Bridges , George Clooney , Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey ), the film, as presented, would not have gone further far from being an "anecdote." Okay, that ultimately the book is more than just a story too, but of course, the satirical treatment of the tape is in simple and pure comedy, when it had really missed something as original as they did The Coen Brothers in Burn After Reading: A satirical film (not funny) that you passed both good and bad times and, above all, make you think.

The director Edgar Wright has brought to life with all the energy possible to the comic book based his film is getting one of the most fresh, witty and original adaptations to date. References saturated sleeves, video games and pop culture, this youthful film repeats its final stretch slightly but is a continuous and impressive style explosion of Michael Cera in the title role.
Scott Pilgrim is a twenty-two years playing bass in a band and is starting to come out with a girl who still goes to school. One day a girl named Ramona skates on your life and he is immediately fascinated by it and pursues it until he finally gets that she agrees to go on a date with him. But Scott is not thought to have a relationship with Ramona has to defeat in battle the seven evil ex-partner of her.
One of the largest and verifiable skills director Edgar Wright is to give a twist and add a clever comic gender component to approaching. His TV series "Spaced" is a remarkable parody of the sit-com "Shaun of the Dead" of the horror genre and the fun " Hot Fuzz "of the police action films. Following his line and his first project without the actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Edgar Wright expands its style and imagination. This adaptation of the comic book "Scott Pilgrim" is, along with " Watchmen "and" Sin City ", one of the most reliable made to date, both in appearance and resources used.
The center of the story is one of the classic arguments and seen in movies. Boy meets girl, falls in love and must overcome a number of difficulties to conquer. Such topical serves as its director and guiding base to build a visually imaginative films seen, where manga, video games and movies come together on screen. Edgar Wright uses all sources and references to it, especially those relating to popular youth culture today, and with them and a good full comedic film extremely funny and original.
What is clear is that this is not a film for all audiences or, at least, it can be enjoyed by all people in the same way. If you have not grown up or lived surrounded by Supermario Bros, Street Fighter, Tekken, Sims, Zelda and Wayne's World and many others is quite possible to lose much of the humor and the achievement of this film. You could say that "Scott Pilgrim against the world" is a film made by a fan / geek / nerd / geek for a public fan / geek / nerd / geek. Is not accessible to everyone, but for audiences who can relate some of their references, this is a magnificent film. Its only flaw is that in its final section is slightly repetitive but its staging and waterfall humorous outweigh the excess of fifteen minutes you have the movie.
Michael Cera (" Juno "," Youth in Revolt ") is the protagonist of the film in a role reminiscent of all that has gone before and here takes advantage of his own typecasting. The film features a number of secondary, particularly noteworthy Kieran Culkin, Ellen Wong and Jason Schwartzman. Part of the many references in "Scott Pilgrim" also comes with the choice of actors such as Brandon Routh and his role in "Superman" and Chris Evans and his role as the Human Torch. Missing only a cameo by Nick Frost and Simon Pegg , which probably would be difficult to fit but for fans of the films of this director would be more than welcome.
"Scott Pilgrim against the world" is a film with good players but where the protagonists are the wit, imagination and visual resources present in each plane of the film and along with its multitude of cultural references make this film a cult film for a generation.

The personnel director Atom Egoyan surprised to make a remake of a French film of 2003 with Anglo-Saxon distribution, where the highlight is the acting work and play of relationships between characters are created in the first half of the film. In the second half, the director introduces a change in tone and thematic little too dissonant and consonant with the development followed.
A doctor is suspected that her husband, a charismatic college professor, is cheating on him unfairly after losing a flight back to his house the night of his birthday. To verify contractual Chloe, a young high-class prostitute who tries to seduce him and check his loyalty. The doctor, Catherine, directs the setting of the meetings with her husband and Chloe has to tell what happened in detail, but increasing as they happen.
Seen the final result is not entirely clear the reasons that led to the always interesting director Atom Egoyan to make a new version of a European film and was received with considerable success in their home country, France, released just five years ago ago. "Nathalie" by Anne Fontaine is here, "Chloe", Emmanuelle Béart is replaced by Amanda Seyfried , Fanny Ardant by Julianne Moore and Gerard Depardieu by Liam Neeson. This drama of suspicion, mistrust and passions works thanks to the intriguing love triangle that develops between the three main characters, with their secrets and hidden desires, and the work of the three protagonists, especially achieved the scenes between Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore , because they create perfectly and using simple gestures and looks just the relationship that the script describes. Atom Egoyan gives a remarkably tight rhythm to the film, knowing creating and maintaining tension and pitch along the length until it reaches the third act. In this last installment, and emulating a bad turn of Hitchcock, "Chloe" change of registration and shake without excessive coherence development that had the history to date. One of the great virtues of the script also lost, because until all the final third were told the key elements that were showing more, making the subjectivity and the interplay of truths force cogieran great shape. Unfortunately the outcome is more graphic and less intelligent actions in words. "Chloe" is always an interesting film which certainly highlights the actors' performances, but the new provision of Atom Egoyan is questionable because the other great virtues of the film are created by the script, the same he became "Nathalie".
